Noted rock photographer and musician Michael Galinsky spent years touring the country with his band Sleepyhead--and he always had his camera close to hand. Scraps is a collection of black-and-white photos that document the places he's seen, floors they've crashed on, bands they've played with-plus friends and strangers they met along the way in the underground music community.

Galinsky's photographs merit comparison both to Robert Frank's "on the road" images in The Americans and to Nan Goldin's candid portraits of her intimate circle.

Those depicted include Sonic Youth, Bikini Kill (shown left), Yo La Tengo, Rodan, Come, Beat Happening, the Make Up, Kicking Giant, Slant 6, and many more. The book also includes writing by Tim Foljahn, Sam Lipsyte, Sean Meadows, Cynthia Nelson, Tara Key, Tae Won Yu, Chris O'Rourke, and others.

Many of Galinsky's music friends contributed rare/unreleased songs recordings to an hour-long CD that is packaged inside the book.
