August

August is an almost 9-year-old border collie. He came to me from PNW Border Collie Rescue when he was 1 year old, having been found wandering in E. Oregon, where he was probably a ranch dog. He was neutered at 1 yr old, is up to date on all shots, and his teeth were cleaned in April 2017. He has a clean bill of health, though he does best on a high-fiber diet (his dry food of choice is Purina Pro Plan EN Fiber Balance), otherwise his stools can be a little loose.

August is a “medium drive” border collie, meaning that while he can be very focused on a ball, he’s not obsessive. He’s trained in basic commands, walks well on leash, and stays close and responds to commands when off-leash (especially if a ball is involved). He gets about an hour’s on-leash exercise a day, plus off-leash ball exercise as often as possible. He’s perfectly house-trained and doesn’t destroy stuff when left on his own, likes riding in the car, and is good at the vet’s.

He could easily be a one-person dog, but he isn’t; he’s affectionate and friendly with everyone, and good with kids. He’s grown up with cats and is interested in them, but doesn’t chase them. He hates loud noises (fireworks, guns).

He and Sammy play together a lot, mostly wrestling. Funnily enough, at dog parks they don’t do this, either with other dogs or with one another — it seems to be a private game.
